Education
As someone who has served on an Education Board, as well as taught in a variety of venues, I have seen firsthand the successes and failures of our school system. While I applaud the recognition of our school system, I firmly believe that we must not rest on our laurels. We must help our students become prepared to meet the challenges of the future. Additionally, the Education budget comprises a large percentage of state and local spending. Taxpayers have the right to expect results.
My priority in this area will be to ensure that the majority of our dollars are spent in the classroom, not on administration and bureaucracy. If there are cuts to be made, we need to look to the central office and not the teachers. Teachers, not dollars, teach students. I am also in favor of charter schools. Innovation and competition bring better results. I will work to be a leader who will hold the education administration accountable for the outcomes.
