Welcome.
Thank you for visiting my website. For the 2006 election, I am running for a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates, District 13. There are 3 seats and I am asking you to support my bid to be elected to one of the seats by casting your vote for me.

Public Service has always been important to me. I proudly served our state in the National Guard. I have been extremely active within our community by serving as a case manager, helping the homeless, and an employment coach for inmates. I have also served on the Board of Directors for several social organizations. Recently, I was honored to received a Volunteer of the Year award from Christmas in April * Howard County. For the past three years I served as an Executive Legislative Aide to a State Delegate until I resigned to run for this office.
People are my passion and I work with an ethical “can do” attitude to facilitate discourse and collaboration to get positive results.
I want bring this same dedication the Maryland General Assembly. As your next State Delegate, I pledge to put people ahead of politics.
As we have seen over the past couple of years, politics and political gamesmanship have consumed our General Assembly and our interests have gotten lost along the way. The BGE electrical rate situation is just one prime example. No one cared about the rate payers or our future. They cared more about the blame game.
As your Delegate, I will work to lower our tax burden, control government spending, bring accountability to our educational system, work to restore voting integrity to our process and make health care affordable and accessible, pass tough crime measures without delay, and help fight the growing problem of illegal immigration.
I will also work to keep our Veterans and Seniors in Maryland. Our seniors and our Veterans provide an invaluable resource for our community. Veterans and Seniors purchase goods and services that are essential to economic growth and tax revenue. Seniors and Veterans do not have children in schools, nor do they use some of the other county services that younger families do. Further, they are an invaluable trained resource.
As both a mother and a fourth generation Howard County resident, I want my children and your children to be able to pursue their dreams here in Maryland. I don’t want them forced out due to economic reasons.
As our state faces new global economic challenges, our citizens expect leadership from their elected officials. They expect good government, a disciplined budget, and a set of priorities that begin with curbing spending instead of raising taxes.
When it comes to education, I am parent not a politician. In order to be competitive in the ever-evolving workplace, children need a strong background in the basics. The way to improve education is not just to throw money at the problem and to hope for the best. It is to raise academic standards and to seek parental involvement.
You can count on me to aggressively pursue legislation that will implement tougher penalties for sex offenders, end parole for violent offenders, stiffer penalties for illegal workers who use fake IDs to get work, and to implement guilty but insane legislation. Our children must be safe in our communities.
We have been short changed long enough. My opponents have been obstacles in working with the Governor, and at almost every juncture thwarted efforts that would work toward making Howard County and Maryland better. My opponents have continued to solve our most challenging issues with a tax.
We have a ten year tax for the interest on a loan in connection with the BGE electric rate debacle, and there is no opt out. We also, have a 2% HMO tax that they voted for instead of real health care and medical malpractice reform. The opposition voted in support of the Wal-Mart bill, which takes money from a company under the guise of aiding health care. Although this bill violated federal law, my opponents are vowing to go back to rewrite the Wal-Mart bill, instead of working for a real solution. When you review their records you will see that they are representing the interest of the Speaker of the House, not your interest as they cast their votes in step with the House Speaker.
To bring about a new atmosphere of cooperation and results, we need new leadership that will not solve every issue with a tax, or by thwarting the efforts of the Governor.
Further, I believe in the free market enterprise system. Artificially manipulating free market enterprise will have dire consequences as we have seen with BGE electric rates and the financial burden levied on the citizens.
My opponents will tell you that they bring the money to the state for education. Funding for education is formula driven, not person driven.
My opponents will also tell you that raising the HMO tax fixed the health care and malpractice /tort reform problem. I do not question their motives, but I do question their judgment.
We need leaders that are inclusive of ideas regardless as to party, and leaders who will fair mindedly work for real, long term solutions for our most challenging issues.
For the last three years, I was an Executive Legislative Aide, and I am not a part of the “machine.” I have a track record of community service and I want to serve you.
On November 7 th, you will have an opportunity to vote for three candidates for State Delegate. I would be honored to have your vote and together we will put people ahead of politics. Thank you so much.
As Delegate Loretta will work to:
- Lower your tax burden
